Michigan Shore-to-Shore Trail Day 2

This video is Day 2 of a hike across Michigan from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The trail is called the Michigan Shore-to-Shore Trail. It begins in Oscoda, MI and ends in Empire, MI. It is somewhere between 215 and 235 miles depending on what trails are followed. A map showing a complete breakdown of the trail along with resources along the way can be accessed here.

Day 2 started close by Lumberman’s Monument near Oscoda, MI. We got a late start and ended up hiking well into dark completing this day at about 11pm. on our previous week’s scouting trip, we confirmed that the campgrounds along the trail were open and had handpump water sources. However, a week later when we did this section of the walk, the campgrounds were closed and water sources winterized. This was a real setback since we packed enough water to get to the campsites. We considered filtering water from a nearby river. We did meet some campers that gave us some bottled water. The walk was agonizing as we approached the 20 mile marker. We both did not realize it, but we were infected with COVID and were having a hard time with our Oxygen levels. After retrieving our vehicles, we ended up staying a second night at the Lumberman’s Monument Campground.

Trip Summary: Total Time = 13 hours 15 minutes.  Moving Time = 9 hours 55 minutes. Distance = 23.9 miles.
