This post is the gear side of the hike across Michigan from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The trail is called the Michigan Shore-to-Shore Trail. It begins in Oscoda, MI and ends in Empire, MI. It is somewhere between 215 and 235 miles depending on what trails are followed.
There are two ideas in this video:
1. Backpacking carrying all of the necessary items to eat and sleep for seven days (not consecutive) on the trail. The other nights we would stay at a motel every third day to cleanup and refresh our gear and supplies.
2. Slack pack using two vehicles, one at the entry and destination for each day. We would still use the motel stays as in #1.
We have selected #2. The reason is that I had an accident on September 3, 2021 while riding my ATV, I injured my right groin area. This can be seen in the Distasta from Kalkaska video on this channel. This is explained more in introduction and planning video on this channel. I wanted to include the videos for the backpacking gear in #1 to help others who might be planning something similar. We welcome you to come along for the adventure!
