This post is Day 7 of a hike across Michigan from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The trail is called the Michigan Shore-to-Shore Trail. It begins in Oscoda, MI and ends in Empire, MI. It is somewhere between 215 and 235 miles depending on what trails are followed. A map showing a complete breakdown of the trail along with resources along the way can be accessed here.
Day 7 of our hike began at the location we left off on Old 144 just East of the West Branch Big Creek River & bridge. We ended after crossing the South Branch of the Au Sable River on M-72 at the Mason Tract Pathway trailhead. We started walking at around 7:40am and finished for the day at just before 3:30pm. This day was a good hike with beautiful weather. There was a brief rain shower, but it helped to cool us off. There was a large population of ticks throughout the trail. We think the cooler early morning hours saw less active ticks while things picked up towards noon. We had beautiful views of two rivers and a nice ridge to hike.
Pixie, my Golden Retriever was not with us due to the ticks. After retrieving our vehicles, checking into our hotel, cleaning up, and a brief rest period, we went to Paddle Hard in Grayling for dinner.
Trip Summary: Total Time = 7 hours 40 minutes. Moving Time = 4 hours 53 minutes. Distance = 10.4 miles.
