In October 2018, shortly after purchasing ATV’s and a trailer, we visited Drummond Island in the upper peninsula of Michigan. We rented a cabin that was large enough to accommodate the four of us, my friend Jim, his son Riley, my son Kyle, and myself. Jim and Riley planned to rent a side-by-side while Kyle and I hauled our Polaris ATV’s.
On the west map for Drummond Island that you can see here, on our first day with the ATV’s, we explored the trails and route in the #01 to #06 areas. In October 2018, there was considerable water on the trails that added to the fun. We had to drive a little slower to avoid getting wet and to make sure that larger rocks were not going to damage the ATV’s. On a shared ATV route and Jeep trail, we encountered a hill named the Devil’s Playground. With some care, we all managed to make it up this somewhat tricky hill. We stopped on the trail for lunch on this beautiful Fall day. The experience is what riders dream about when not on a trail.
On the east map for Drummond Island that you can see here, on our second day with the ATV’s, we explored the trails and routes in the #07 to #21 areas. We encountered lots of water again. Some of the routes had significant holes, water, and mud that we had to navigate around. Though not as nice of a day as day 1, still a nice experience riding on the routes and trails.
Trail/Route Assessment: For the trails and routes, it does not get much better than Drummond Island in the State of Michigan. Drummond Island has it all. It has rocks, ledges, mud, water, sand, and hills. Partner that up with the Mackinaw Bridge, the ferry ride, and the Lake Huron water views to a from the island, what else do you need? Five stars, highly recommended!
At the time of this trip, I was not consistently using Gaia GPS. No trip data from that system is available.
