This video is Day 3 of a hike across Michigan from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The trail is called the Michigan Shore-to-Shore Trail. It begins in Oscoda, MI and ends in Empire, MI. It is somewhere between 215 and 235 miles depending on what trails are followed. A map showing a complete breakdown of the trail along with resources along the way can be accessed here.
After a Winter Seasonal delay and a premature stop to the hiking in October of 2021 due to Covid, we picked the trail up back where we left off and on April 2022, we started. Day 3 of our hike began near the general store in Curtisville, MI. We started walking at around 11am and ended just after 6:30pm. After retrieving our vehicles, we stayed at Gabion’s Campground and slept in our vehicles.
Most of the hike on this day was flat. We lost the trail in the first mile and then found it. It was uneventful with miles 2 through 8 except for a plethora of those nasty little creatures we know as Tics! We had beautiful views of the Ausable River in several locations along this section of the trail. After a horse camp around mile 8, we lost the trail and had to bushwhack to the powerlines and back to our lead vehicle. We managed to complete 11.6 miles on this first return day.
Trip Summary: Total Time = 7 hours 31 minutes. Moving Time = 6 hours 3 minutes. Distance = 11.6 miles.
