Tip for Farmer’s Dog Customers

This video is to help dog owners who subscribe to the Farmer’s Dog food plan.

The subscription based service arrives in box with the meals frozen and packed on dry ice. The feeding instructions provided to me at the time I used the service from December 2023 to January 2024 directed to move the portion needed for the following day from the freezer to the refrigerator. Then, when ready to use, cut open one end and squeeze out the portion needed for the feeding. The problem with this method is there is a large amount of wasted food still in the plastic package very much like what happens with toothpaste.

The method I thought worked better is using a utility knife, slice each end open. Then, on the front flat side, score length wise down the middle just cutting through the plastic. If you feed twice per day, make a deeper score on the flat side to make two equal portions. Then turn it over and hit the frozen food against a counter top so the deeper score breaks. Peel away the cut plastic and now you have two equal portions ready for the next day’s feeding.

I am not receiving any money from Farmer’s Dog to convey this information. This video is not trying to convey an opinion on Farmer’s Dog. It is merely a tip to help maximize the cost of this subscription feeding service. Due to the cost, I researched a more inexpensive alternative.

In February, I purchased a meat grinder and process chicken legs and quarters with the bone, gizzards, green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli, eggs including the shell, blueberries, and strawberries. The mixture is portioned in a daily container that is 2% of my dogs body weight. It is frozen and relocated to the refrigerator the day before it is used. My dogs love the food. A recent blood work test for my Golden reported perfect numbers across the board. This food approach has been discussed with my vet. This food approach costs less than $500 per year per dog.
