My Life's Reward

Paddling, ATV riding, backpacking, Jeeping, and some fishing along with other outdoor activities possibly accompanied by a Golden Retriever named Pixie and/or Irish Setter named Brynleigh. Follow the first part of the journey working towards retirement in 2026 and afterwards, spending even more time in the outdoors. Maybe we can even dabble into some remote property and a cabin build!

Good day, I am Scott Thede. I love spending time with friends and family in the outdoors. I also cherish the peace and solitude when doing activities solo that often includes my Golden Retriever, Pixie. It is time I cherish to reflect and reset.

As retirement approaches, I plan to have a cabin somewhere in northern Michigan. Join me and my pups in our adventures.

This video is paddling the Pigeon River from the East Sturgeon Valley Road Bridge to the Tin Bridge Road. This paddle is in the lower peninsula of Michigan. The river was clear, but low due to lack of rainfall, extremely low resulting in a lot of bottom scraping and wading. The weather on this day was beautiful with plenty of sunshine.

There were a few campgrounds and only one bridge between the two that we staged ourselves. This section of the river is quite remote. This is not a destination paddling river when compared to the Sturgeon. Canoe liveries do not maintain this river, but instead, focus on the Sturgeon. The only help this river gets to keep it clear are from paddlers and fisherman.

The paddlers in this video are Jim in the front of the Mad River Revelation canoe with me and his son Riley paddling the Kayak.

This video is an afternoon of riding ATV's on the West Higgins Trail west of Higgins Lake in Michigan. My son Kyle, daughter Heather, sister Kelly, and brother-in-law Larry and I drove the in/out lead and the the northern large looped trail. This trail has grown in some since our last visit a few years ago.

We drove the loop clockwise and it has some elevation changes. A few areas were water covered. This trail is for 50" or less ORV's. We thank those that keep the trail maintenance up and their dedication to the work.

This video is a late morning and early afternoon of riding an ATV on the Gladwin North Loop with a channel subscriber John and his neighbor Jim. On this mild and sunny day, we drove portions of the loop twice! This trail is sandy and comfortably wide enough for any level of rider. Side-by-sides like the Honda Pioneer with the roll bar will have no difficulties with turn banks and trees making for a pleasant ride.

We drove the loop counterclockwise. There was some water on a two track when we veered off the trail.

The trailhead has plenty of parking and has a restroom. All of the trails seemed to be very nicely maintained. We thank those that keep the trail maintenance up and their dedication to the work.

This video is an ATV ride from the M-20 MCCCT Trailhead to the White Cloud Loop. But, it is also the second ride on a new "used" Can-Am Outlander 650XT that was purchased with 67 miles on it. This video has me talking about general topics and explaining the story behind this ATV purchase.

During the Loop portion, I had a mishap on a hidden bridge. Besides that snafu, it was a great afternoon/evening ride.
